An independent guide, not a care provider.
What we do
ER.com helps people who are worried about a symptom find the right kind of care quickly. Emergencies always come first: if something could be life-threatening, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. For concerns that aren’t emergencies, we explain when a virtual visit with an independent telehealth provider may be an option, and when in-person care is a better fit.
ER.com does not provide medical care, employ clinicians, diagnose conditions, or prescribe medication.
How we make money
Some links on ER.com are affiliate links. If you follow one and use the provider’s service, ER.com may earn a commission, at no added cost to you. We never earn money from directing anyone to emergency care. Pricing, availability, eligibility, and treatment decisions are set by the provider.
How we write our condition pages
Our pages give general information based on widely accepted public health guidance. Every page lists emergency warning signs first, describes when in-person care may be better, and avoids diagnosing, recommending specific medications, or telling anyone they don’t need care. Each page shows the date it was last updated, and we revise pages when guidance changes.
Your privacy
We use privacy-friendly, first-party analytics that count page views and clicks in aggregate. We don’t use advertising or social media tracking pixels, and we don’t collect information that identifies you along with your symptoms.
This is not for emergencies.
For life-threatening symptoms, severe chest pain, trouble breathing, or immediate danger, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency department.
